SCOTT C. YOUNG, MD, CM, FRCS(C) BIOGRAPHICAL DATA Dr. Scott C. Young was born in Calgary, Alberta but spent most of his school years in Montreal, Quebec. There, he attended McGill University, from which he earned his MD, CM in 1978. He spent the next year in Montreal interning at St. Mary's Hospital Centre. In 1979, Dr. Young moved to Toronto, Ontario to undertake his residency in plastic surgery at the University of Toronto. He completed this in 1983 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Young completed a fellowship in hand surgery and microsurgery at Toronto General Hospital. He also did subspecialty work in pediatric craniofacial plastic surgery at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. He practiced briefly at Queensway General Hospital and Etoicoke General Hospital in Toronto before returning to Alberta. He practiced in Medicine Hat, Alberta from 1984 to 1986 and then moved to Calgary. Dr. Young held the position of Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at Holy Cross Hospital, Colonel Belcher Hospital, and Rockyview Hospital, all of which are members of the Calgary District Hospital Group, until May 1993. He was also on staff at the Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary, Medicine Hat Regional Hospital in Medicine Hat, and Mineral Springs Hospital in Banff. Dr. Young was in charge of the subspecialty training program for the Calgary District Hospital Group residents. He also served on the laser committee, the operating room booking committee, surgery department committees, and the plastic surgery committee. Dr Young is deeply committed to all levels of teaching of health care professionals. Ongoing nursing, medical student, resident, and peer lectures, electives, and courses are a part of his practice. Among these in Calgary were a biannual suturing course, an annual anatomy course elective, and an ongoing peer surgical journal club. Professional special interests include hand surgery, microvascular surgery, skin cancer, breast reconstruction, maxillofacial surgery, and liposuction-body contouring. Dr. Young is an active member of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons, Group of Advancement of Microsurgery, Canadian Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Association for Hand Surgery, the WK Lindsay Club, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Alberta Medical Association, the American Medical Association, the American Society of Plastic Surgery, and the Lipoplasty Society. Dr. Young is currently on staff at Ashland Community Hospital, Rouge
Valley Medical Center, and Providence Hospital. He also runs an in-depth
hand clinic in Southern Oregon. While maintaining private practice, he
continues to teach health care professionals and his peers.
